Portland cement is one of the world’s oldest building materials discovered by ancient Romans. The modern version of this product is still among the most flexible and widely used building material on this planet. Currently, cement companies in the US produce five types of Portland cement according to ASTM standards: Type I, Type II, Type III, Type IV, Type V and White Portland.
Central Supply always keeps in stock Portland Type I and White Portland cement.
Types of Portland cement:
Type I: (always in stock) the most popular, General purpose use in any construction like most buildings, bridges, driveways, pavements, precast etc...
Type II: (special order) use when restrained sulfate resistance is required for structures exposed to soil or water containing sulfate ions.
Type III: (special order) use when high early strength is needed. very popular in cold weather and rapid curing is required.
Type IV: (special order) This is the very rare type, mostly use in huge construction like dams and bridges when the low heat of hydration is required.
Type V: (special order) This is special cement with high sulfate resistance properties used when concrete is exposed to high levels of sulfate ions.
White Portland:(always in stock) This is a specialty white colored Portland with properties similar to Type I mostly use for decorative purposes.
Type IA: (special order) This is Type I cement with an additive that will entrain air bubbles to aid in strength when the concrete in which the cement is used is exposed to cold temperatures.
